Commission Procedures for Murals

Planning

Mrs. Hardin begins the mural commission with a discussion either in person or over the phone with the client.  Basic themes are considered and suggestions are made for the mural. The client is then expected to provide the artist with adequate reference material to use in painting the mural.  Size and location are considered and a tentative price is agreed upon.  At this time a 50% deposit is required.  Travel and accommodation expenses are added to the final payment along with any adjustments in the price due to additions or changes made in the mural.  This is due upon the completion of the mural.

Working with the client, Mrs. Hardin does a pencil sketch using the provided reference material to develop the ideas into a mural composition. With larger murals it is advantageous to actually see the mural site before creating the composition.  When required for board approval,  Mrs. Hardin will do a color scale rendition of the mural for an additional charge, which varies with the size of the mural.

Painting the Mural

Upon acceptance of the mural plan, Mrs. Hardin will begin the mural.  Whether working in a home or a business establishment,  the artist is flexible about working hours and can work as well in front of people or at night.   Most murals take between one week and one month to complete. Client is responsible for providing accommodations while the artist is painting on location.

Materials and Equipment

Outdoor murals and large indoor murals are painted with latex house paint which will be the expense of the client.  Smaller indoor murals can be painted in either latex house paint or regular artist's oil paint.  Brushes, ladders , and scaffolding will be provided by the artist.  For an additional fee a coating for ultraviolet protection can be applied to the completed mural.
